Pre-Race Checklist: UT NICA State Championships

🏁 Pre-Race Rider Checklist

Be prepared. Be confident. Be race-ready.

Bike Check:

  • Clean and inspect your bike frame
  • Lube chain
  • Check tire pressure & condition
  • Inspect brake pads and ensure proper braking
  • Check shifting – smooth and reliable
  • Torque all bolts (stem, bars, seatpost, crank, etc.)
  • Suspension tuned and functioning properly
  • Water bottle or hydration system mounted and clean
  • Spare tube, CO2/inflator or mini pump, and multi-tool onboard

 Gear Check:

  • Helmet (no cracks, fits snugly)
  • Riding kit (jersey, bibs/shorts, gloves, socks)
  • Sunglasses or eye protection
  • Riding shoes (with cleats if clipped in)
  • Gloves
  • Rain jacket or layers (check weather!)

Nutrition & Hydration:

  • Eat a healthy, balanced meal the night before
  • Hydrate well in the 24 hours before the race
  • Bring pre-race snacks (banana, bar, etc.)
  • Electrolytes and water in bottles or pack

 Logistics & Prep:

  • Know your race start time & location
  • Arrive at least 1.5–2 hours early
  • Number plate attached securely
  • Warm-up plan ready (20–30 minutes spin, light efforts)
  • Tools & spare parts in car or pit area
  • Team tent location

Mindset & Focus:

  • Review the course map/profile
  • Have a pacing plan for your category
  • Visualize the start and key moments
  • Stay calm, confident, and focused
  • Remember: Have fun, race smart, ride hard!
